in Designing, Drawing, Tutorials by Razvan on January 21st, 201010 Comments
In this tutorial I will show you how to create a shiny speaker icon. The tutorial is based on teaching some simple ways of using the Layer Styles to create a great 3D speaker.
You will learn also how to create shiny objects with a very simple method.

I will create a round shape with Ellipse Tool.
For this shape I will add a gradient
This is my result so far
I will create a new layer ( press on CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+N ) and with Brush Tool I will add a white spot. You need to select a smooth round brush.
The same I will make a dark area under this ball
With Ellipse Tool I will create another round shape
For this shape I will add the following layer style
This is my result so far
I will create one more time a shape but with a darker color
The same as above I will add a simple layer style
I will create a last shape with Ellipse Tool, and I will place it like in the following image
Also for this shape I will add a simple layer style
The pattern is from this set of 200 Pixel patterns
This is my result
Right under this small round shape ( the middle of the speaker ) I will create a new layer, and with Brush Tool I will add some light
I will change the opacity value to 30 % and with Polygonal Lasso Tool I will create a selection like in the following image
With Brush Tool I will add another area with light, and then I will press on CTRL+D to deselect
Now I will use create another shape with Ellipse Tool
I will add the following layer styles
this is my result
Make sure you have this last layer selected, and then press on CTRL+J to duplicate the layer. Select Move Tool, and press one time on your Up arrow key from your keyboard, then you need to change the color of the stroke to white
This is my result
I will select these two shapes and I will press on CTRL+E to merge both layers into a single one. With Eraser Tool I will delete some parts of the line until I will have something like this.
With Rectangle Tool I will make two white shapes, and I will merge them together ( CTRL+E )
I will go to Edit > Transform > Warp and I will change the shape like in the following image.
After I will lower the opacity value to 40 % it will look like this
The speaker is almost ready. if you want to use it in this way feel free to do it. However I like to complicate things a little. I will add some shoes under the 3D speaker . With Pen Tool I will create a shape like a shoe
With Rounded Rectangle Tool I will make a sole
And I will add the following layer styles
Here is my result
With Pen Tool I will create the front of the shoe with a darker color
I will select all the layers I have for this shoe and I will merge them ( CTRL+E ). Then I will duplicate the layer and I will go to Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal
With Move Tool I will place the other shoe to the right
With Pen Tool I will create some shape like a crescent. In this way I am trying to create a reflection of the speaker on the shoes
With Rounded Rectangle Tool I will create some small shapes. I will create the leg
The layer style I have used for this tinny shape:
I will duplicate this small shape several times, and I will rotate it until I will complete a leg.
Here is my final result
